HP Notebook 15s-fq1012tu

My laptop screen suddenly started flickering and got stuck on a page I had previously opened. It was working perfectly fine earlier this morning, and I hadn't been using anything heavy—just Google Chrome and watching a video. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the graphics driver, but that didn't help at all. My laptop is less than two years old, and I have no idea why this is happening! Please help! What should I do to fix this issue? I’m really frustrated right now photo_2024-12-11_18-19-11.jpg !

Hi @Am207,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Sorry to hear about the screen flickering issue with your HP Notebook 15s. Since the problem appeared suddenly and you’ve already tried reinstalling the graphics driver, here are a few more steps you can follow to try and resolve the issue.

Check for Windows Updates

  • Sometimes, a recent update can cause conflicts. Make sure your operating system is up-to-date, as there may be a fix for the issue.
  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for any pending updates.

Check for Graphics Driver Updates

  • While you’ve already reinstalled the driver, it's worth checking if there’s an updated version available.
  • Visit the HP Support Website for your specific laptop model, download and install the latest graphics driver, or use the Device Manager to check for updates:
    1. Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
    2. Expand Display Adapters, right-click on your graphics card, and choose Update Driver.

Adjust Display Settings

  • Try lowering the refresh rate or changing the resolution:
    1. Right-click on the desktop and select Display Settings.
    2. Scroll down and click Advanced Display Settings.
    3. Under Refresh Rate, try lowering it to see if that resolves the flickering.

Perform a Hard Reset

  • A simple hard reset might help clear up temporary glitches:
    1. Shut down the laptop.
    2. Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery (if possible).
    3. Hold down the power button for about 15-20 seconds to discharge any residual power.
    4. Reconnect the battery and power adapter, then turn the laptop back on.

Test in Safe Mode

  • Boot your laptop in Safe Mode to see if the flickering persists. This will help determine if the issue is hardware-related or caused by a software conflict.
    1. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery.
    2. Under Advanced Startup, click Restart Now.
    3. After the restart, choose Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart.
    4. Once the system restarts, press 4 or F4 to boot into Safe Mode.
  • If the flickering stops in Safe Mode, it's likely a software issue.

Check for Hardware Issues

  • If the issue persists after trying the above steps, there might be a hardware problem with the screen or the GPU. Try connecting your laptop to an external monitor to see if the flickering is present there. If the external display works fine, the issue might be with the laptop’s built-in screen.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
