Hi @Shelley2023,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

There are a few possible reasons why your HP screen may be going black every few minutes and then returning.

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.

  • Check your power settings: It's possible that your screen is set to turn off after a certain amount of inactivity. To check your power settings in Windows, go to Control Panel > Power Options and adjust the settings accordingly.
  • Update your graphics drivers: Outdated or corrupt graphics drivers can cause display issues. You can download and install the latest graphics drivers for your HP from the manufacturer's website.
  • Disable automatic brightness adjustment: Some HP laptops have a feature that automatically adjusts the brightness of the screen based on ambient light. This feature can sometimes cause the screen to flicker or go black. To disable automatic brightness adjustment, go to Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings. Expand Display and then disable "Enable adaptive brightness".
  • Check for loose connections: Make sure that all cables connecting your monitor and computer are securely plugged in. If you're using a laptop, make sure the power cord is securely plugged into both the laptop and the power outlet.
  • Run a malware scan: Malware can cause a variety of issues on your computer, including display problems. Run a full scan of your computer using an antivirus program to make sure it's free of malware.

If none of these troubleshooting steps work, it's possible that there's a hardware issue with your monitor or graphics card.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
