Hello, I no longer have an HDMI output on my HP pavilion gaming 15 laptop. I checked the cables, changed the cables, the secondary screens, I installed the NVIDIA driver. I did a command prompt sfc/scannow, then chkdsk/f/r. The HDMI port started working again yesterday, but not today

What should I do to open this HDMI output?

Hi @Idoine83,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you've already taken several troubleshooting steps, and it's unfortunate that the HDMI output issue persists. Here are some additional steps you can try to resolve the problem:

Restart Your Laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary glitches. Make sure to restart your laptop and check if the HDMI output is functioning again.

Check Power Settings: Ensure that your laptop is not in a power-saving mode that might disable certain ports, including HDMI. Go to your power settings and select a balanced or high-performance power plan.

Update Graphics Drivers: Although you mentioned installing the NVIDIA driver, ensure that it is the latest version. Visit the official HP website to download and install the most recent driver for your graphics card. Click Here

Device Manager Check: Open Device Manager, find the Display Adapters section, and ensure that your NVIDIA graphics card is listed without any errors. If there are issues, you might need to update the driver or roll back to a previous version.

BIOS/UEFI Update: Check if there is a BIOS or UEFI update available for your laptop on the HP support website. Sometimes, firmware updates can address hardware compatibility issues.

Check for Windows Updates: Make sure your operating system is up-to-date. Windows updates may include fixes for hardware-related issues.

System Restore: If the HDMI port was working yesterday and not today, you could try using the System Restore feature to revert your system to a previous state when the HDMI port was functional. Click Here

Test with Another Display: Connect your laptop to a different external display to rule out issues with the display itself.

Check HDMI Port for Physical Damage: Inspect the HDMI port on your laptop for any physical damage or debris. If you find any, you may need  assistance for repairs.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
