In power options, I have my laptop automatically turn off its display after 10 minutes. When I leave it for idle for 10 minutes. I come back to my laptop with its display off. The fans still spin and the keyboard backlight is still on. However, if I try to wake the display by moving my cursor or pressing my keyboard, the screen is still off. So I am forced to power down the laptop by holding the power button down. After that, the computer works just fine. Why can't I wake my display up after idle?

Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case regarding issues with the computer. I will be delighted to assist you here.
Please follow the below steps:
Step 1: Enabling the Keyboard in Windows
Skip this step if the computer does not enter sleep mode or if the computer wakes unexpectedly.
Follow these steps to enable your keyboard to wake your computer from sleep mode:
-
In Windows, search for and open the Device Manager.
-
Click the arrow next to Keyboards and double-click the name of your keyboard.
-
If the Power Management tab is available, proceed to the next step.
If the Power Management tab is not available, click the Change Settings button if it appears below the Device status box. The same Keyboard Properties window opens with the Power Management tab available.
If you are prompted for an Administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
-
Click the Power Management tab and make sure that the box next to Allow this device to wake the computer is checked.
-
Click OK, and then test to make sure that the keyboard can now wake the computer. If the computer still cannot wake from sleep mode, continue using these steps.
-
For instructions on how to update the BIOS of your computer, see one of the following HP support documents: Updating the BIOS (Notebooks)

Thanks for the reply. However, that did not fix it for me. I have the latest bios and my keyboard/mouse can wake the computer. The computer never enters sleep mode. The fans still spin but its just that the display is off and there is no way to turn it back on.
Perhaps the only solution is to go into power options and make sure my computer's display never turns off by itself? but that is a rather inelegant solution and id prefer a proper fix instead.
