The motherboard (HSB J Mv-6 94V-0 E89382) won't boot or display any video.
I was performing maintenance on the cooling fan, which was dirty and causing the laptop to overheat. I noticed the fan wasn't spinning, so I unplugged it—but I forgot to remove the battery first. After cleaning the fan, I tried to turn the laptop back on, but it never booted up again. I’ve noticed that when I plug the power source into the USB-C port, no LEDs light up. I also tried the "60-second reset" procedure, but that didn't help either.
What could be the issue, and what solutions might be available?

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
I understand the notebook stopped powering on immediately after the cooling fan was disconnected while the internal battery was still connected. Since there is now no USB-C charging/power LED, no fan activity, and no display, this is best treated as a no-power condition rather than only a no-video or display issue. HP’s no-power guidance similarly identifies the combination of no fan/noise, no LEDs, and no video as a possible power-delivery issue.
From the photo, the system board, memory modules, cooling fan and heat-pipe assembly, internal coin-cell battery, ribbon cables, and other internal connectors are visible. However, the marking“HSB J Mv-6 94V-0 E89382” should not be relied upon as the HP motherboard or notebook model identification. The exact HP product/model number would be needed before identifying board-specific connectors or replacement parts.
What may have happened
Because the fan was unplugged while the battery remained connected, the timing makes an electrical/power-path issue a reasonable possibility. For example, an unintended electrical contact during servicing could have affected a board-level power circuit. That cannot be confirmed from the photograph alone.
There is also another possibility worth ruling out first: HP notes that an AC adapter can shut down and remain without output when overcurrent, overtemperature, or short-circuit protection is triggered. HP specifies disconnecting the adapter from the notebook for five minutes to allow its output to recover.
Steps I would try next
Disconnect power completely
- Unplug the USB-C AC adapter from the notebook.
- Unplug the AC adapter from the wall.
- With the notebook open and external power removed, disconnect the internal battery before touching or reseating any internal component.
- Do not reconnect or disconnect the cooling fan while battery or AC power is present.
Allow the USB-C AC adapter to reset
Leave the adapter disconnected from the notebook for at least five minutes, then reconnect it to a known-working wall outlet and the notebook. This specifically follows HP's AC-adapter protection recovery guidance.
While power is disconnected, inspect the USB-C connector, cable and notebook charging port for bent/broken parts, discoloration, debris, or other visible damage. HP recommends these checks when a notebook has no power or charging indication.
Perform the HP power reset correctly
HP's documented procedure is to disconnect AC power and nonessential peripherals, then press and hold the power button for approximately 15 to 20 seconds, reconnect the AC adapter, and attempt startup. This reset does not erase personal data.
Since a longer 60-second reset has already been attempted, repeatedly performing the reset is unlikely to add much diagnostic value.
Check the internal connections that were handled
With both the AC adapter and internal battery disconnected, carefully check that the fan connector and any nearby connector or ribbon cable disturbed during cleaning are seated correctly. Also visually inspect the area around the fan connector for anything obviously displaced or damaged.
I would avoid further board-level disassembly or probing with the battery connected.
Test for any return of power
Reconnect the internal battery, close/reassemble the notebook sufficiently for a safe test, connect the correct HP AC adapter, and check for:
- charging/power LED
- keyboard or power-button LED
- momentary fan movement
- audible activity
- blinking diagnostic LEDs
- display activity
If there is still absolutely no LED or power response
At that point, I would focus on the power-delivery path rather than the display, RAM, SSD, Windows, or BIOS. HP states that when there is no fan/noise, no LEDs, and no video signal after a hard reset, the computer might not be receiving power
Because the symptom appeared directly after internal servicing with the battery connected, a board-level electrical fault is possible. If the correct HP AC adapter is verified and there is still no charging LED at all, replacing RAM, reinstalling Windows, or troubleshooting the display would not be the appropriate first direction.
Also, I would not purchase a replacement motherboard based only on “HSB J Mv-6 94V-0 E89382.” Use the notebook's exact HP product number to identify the applicable HP Maintenance and Service Guide and correct replacement assembly.
