There are a few posts re weak or pale contrast on later EliteBook models (and others).
I have an older (smaller) HP notebook that looks much better than the newer models (are you listening HP?)
Anyhoo, after much fiddling, the two tweaks for me that worked to improve the contrast, to the best extent they could:
1) Search Adjust ClearType text . Go through the steps and select the type of text design/crispness that you wish to see.
2) Go to Settings>System>Display>Adaptive Colour. Switch Adaptive Colour to 'On'. Although not specifically a contrast setting (ah,er, HP again), it made a big change.
The major issue is the EliteBook is a $3000 laptop, that lacks a dedicated contrast adjustment...............sigh
