It is frustrating that even HP does not understand the issue with the I2C HID device being inactive. I have tried all sorts of possibilities, but it still does not work. I don't know if it's your fault as the HP company or what you want. I'm having a hard time because I cannot get to my camera, touchpad, and touchscreen. I want a solution because updating drivers does not help, and downloading drivers from your website does not work. Uninstalling does not work. Nothing is working!!!

Consumer grade laptops use generic windows camera drivers. Only some high end laptops come with HP camera drivers.

Please run the webcam test by pressing F2 when booting. Select either component or system test and look for the webcam device. If it fails the diagnostics there is an actual hardware problem.

Does the camera show up in the device manager? If not, then click "View > Show hidden devices". Bring up the Windows device manager and try rolling back the camera driver. Possibly a Windows update installed the wrong driver.

Did you try rolling back the camera driver?

It could be the camera driver or the USB driver if the camera is connected to the USB. Many internal cameras are connected to the USB.

In the pictures below you would select the camera driver and then look for 'rollback' If the word 'rollback' is grayed out then uninstall it.

If you cannot rollback the driver then try to find the best one or let windows try. One way is to just uninstall the camera and reboot as described in this official HP document..

If uninstalling or rolling back did not work then see if there is a windows restore point that has a date from when the camera last worked.

This video describes how to use a restore point. Alternately enter restore in the windows search bar.

If this is an emergency such as a zoom conference for a job application and you critically need a camera "ASAP",  then consider a factory restore if your system supports factory cloud restore.

Please let me know what you find out.
