Hi @BB0894,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP 17.3-inch laptop screen is freezing during video calls, it can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow.

  • Check System Requirements: Ensure that your laptop meets the minimum system requirements for the video conferencing software you're using. Video calls can be demanding on system resources, so a slow or outdated computer may struggle to keep up.
  • Close Background Applications: Close any unnecessary background applications and processes that may be using up system resources. This can help free up memory and CPU power for your video call.
  • Update Your Drivers: Outdated graphics drivers can sometimes cause freezing issues. Visit the HP website or use HP's support assistant to check for and install any available driver updates for your laptop.
  • Adjust Video Settings: Within your video conferencing software, lower the video quality settings. This can reduce the demand on your computer's resources and may help prevent freezing.
  • Check for Software Updates: Ensure that your video conferencing software is up to date. Developers frequently release updates to fix bugs and improve stability.
  • Test with Different Software: If the issue persists with one specific video conferencing app, try using a different one to see if the problem is software-specific. For example, if you're using Zoom and experiencing freezing, try Microsoft Teams or Skype to see if the issue persists.
  • Check Internet Connection: A stable and high-speed internet connection is crucial for smooth video calls. Make sure you have a strong and stable connection during your video calls, and consider using a wired Ethernet connection if possible.
  • Hardware Issues: If none of the software-related steps resolve the issue, there may be a hardware problem. It could be related to overheating, a faulty graphics card, or other hardware issues.
  • Update Operating System: Ensure that your laptop's operating system is up to date with the latest security patches and updates.
  • Monitor System Performance: During a video call, open your task manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc on Windows) to monitor system performance. Check CPU and memory usage to identify any spikes or unusual activity.
  • Cooling: Overheating can cause performance issues. Ensure your laptop is on a hard, flat surface and not obstructing its cooling vents. You can also use a laptop cooling pad to help dissipate heat.
  • Scan for Malware: Run a full system scan with your antivirus software to ensure that your laptop is not infected with malware that could be causing performance issues.

Try these steps one by one to pinpoint and resolve the issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
