Hi @Rsraomca

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for reporting this—I'm really sorry you're dealing with such a disruptive issue. A screen that keeps refreshing or flickering can make even basic tasks feel impossible.

Let’s work through a few targeted steps to help stabilize your display.

Step-by-Step Fixes for Continuous Screen Refreshing

1. Check for Display Driver Conflicts

  • Press Windows + X > Device Manager.
  • Expand Display adapters.
  • Right-click your graphics driver (Intel, AMD, or NVIDIA) > Uninstall device.
  • Restart your laptop—Windows will reinstall a basic driver automatically.
  • Then install the correct driver from HP’s support page:
    HP Laptop Drivers
(Select your exact model and OS, then choose Driver – Graphics.)

2. Disable Hardware Acceleration

  • Open Settings > System > Display > Graphics.
  • Scroll to Default graphics settings.
  • Turn off Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling.
  • Restart your laptop.

3. Check Background Apps or Shell Extensions

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  • Look for any apps using high CPU or GPU—especially display-related utilities.
  • Disable unnecessary startup apps under the Startup tab.

4. Run HP UEFI Hardware Diagnostics

You mentioned using this for audio—let’s use it for display too.

  • Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly, then F2 to enter diagnostics.
  • Run the Display Test and System Test.
  • If it passes, the issue is likely software-related.

5. Create a New Windows User Profile

Sometimes corrupted user profiles cause UI glitches.

  • Go to Settings > Accounts > Family & other users.
  • Add a new local account.
  • Log in with the new account and check if the screen behaves normally.

6. Perform a Clean Boot

This helps identify if third-party services are causing the refresh loop.

  • Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
  • Under Services, check Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable all.
  • Go to the Startup tab > Open Task Manager > Disable all startup items.
  • Restart your laptop.

If the issue persists after these steps, let me know your exact HP laptop model and whether the refresh happens only on the desktop or also during apps and video playback. We’ll dig deeper together.
