Hey HP Community! I’ve got a little issue with my laptop screen. There’s a noticeable black mark on it that looks like a keyboard imprint. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Hi @ash316,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Keyboard imprints or marks on a laptop screen can happen due to the keyboard pressing against the screen when the laptop is closed. Here's how you can address this issue.

Clean the Screen

  1. Turn Off the Laptop: Ensure the laptop is completely powered off and unplugged.
  2. Use a Microfiber Cloth: Dampen a microfiber cloth slightly with distilled water or a screen cleaning solution designed for electronics.
  3. Gently Wipe the Screen: Use gentle, circular motions to clean the screen. Avoid pressing too hard.
  4. Dry the Screen: Use a dry part of the microfiber cloth to remove any moisture.

Check for Physical Damage

If the black mark is not removable, it may be a sign of physical damage (e.g., dead pixels or pressure marks). Examine the mark under different light conditions to determine if it's on the surface or inside the display.

  • On the Surface: Cleaning should resolve it.
  • Inside the Display: This might require professional repair or screen replacement.

Prevent Future Imprints

  1. Screen Protector: Install a thin screen protector to act as a barrier.
  2. Keyboard Cover: Use a soft keyboard cover or place a microfiber cloth between the screen and keyboard when closing the laptop.
  3. Handle with Care: Avoid putting heavy objects on top of the laptop or in bags where pressure could cause contact between the screen and keyboard.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
