Hi @Paras165,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

If your HP laptop powers on (fan running and power LED is white) but the screen stays black, it is often caused by a temporary graphics, display, or BIOS startup issue rather than a complete hardware failure. Try the following steps in order:

1. Perform a Hard Reset:

This clears any residual electrical charge that may prevent the system from starting correctly.

  • Disconnect the AC adapter and all USB devices.

  • Press and hold the Power button for 15–30 seconds.

  • Reconnect the AC adapter and turn the laptop on.

2. Reset the Graphics Driver:

If Windows is running but the display is not responding:

  • Press Windows + Ctrl + Shift + B.

  • You may hear a beep or see the screen flash if the display resets successfully.

3. Try BIOS Recovery:

If the BIOS is corrupted, the laptop may power on without displaying anything.

  • Turn off the laptop.

  • Press and hold Windows + B, then press the Power button for 2–3 seconds.

  • Continue holding Windows + B until you hear beeps or see the BIOS Recovery screen.

4. Check the Display:

  • Connect the laptop to an external monitor or TV using HDMI to determine if the issue is limited to the built-in display.

  • Shine a flashlight closely at the laptop screen. If you can faintly see the HP logo or desktop, the display backlight may be the issue.

Expected outcome: If the issue is caused by a temporary software, graphics, or BIOS problem, one of the above steps should restore the display. If the screen remains black on both the internal and external displays, the laptop may require hardware diagnosis.

I hope this helps. Take care and have a great day!

I'm an HP Employee.
