Hi @commander-cb,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Spectre x360 may be having an issue with the camera switch or privacy filter. HP Spectre x360 models sometimes have a physical privacy switch or button that disables the camera to ensure privacy.
Here are some steps to troubleshoot and determine whether it's the switch causing the problem:
1. Check the Physical Camera Privacy Switch
- Location: On most HP Spectre x360 models, the switch is located on the side or top edge of the laptop. Ensure the switch is not set to "off" or privacy mode, which can prevent the camera from functioning.
- Toggle the Switch: Try toggling the camera switch to see if it re-enables the camera.
2. Check Windows Camera Settings
- Open Camera Settings:
- Go to Start > Settings > Privacy > Camera.
- Ensure that camera access is turned on for the device and apps.
- Enable Camera for Apps:
- Scroll down to check that apps can access the camera. If this is disabled, turn it on.
3. Update or Reinstall the Camera Driver
- Device Manager:
- Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
- Expand Imaging Devices or Cameras.
- Right-click on your camera, and select Update Driver or Uninstall Driver (if reinstalling).
- After uninstalling, restart your laptop, and Windows should automatically reinstall the correct driver.
4. Test the Camera with Windows Camera App
- Open the Camera app from the Start menu and check if the camera is working. If the camera doesn’t open or shows an error, it could indicate a hardware problem like the switch or the camera itself.
5. Hardware Test for Camera Issues HP PCs - Testing for hardware failures
- HP laptops usually come with an HP Hardware Diagnostics Tool. You can run this test to check for camera hardware failures:
- Shut down the laptop.
- Press the power button, then repeatedly press the Esc key until the Startup Menu appears.
- Press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
- Run a diagnostic test for the camera.
If the camera switch is faulty or broken, it might not respond even when toggled, and you may need to have it checked or repaired
