Victus by HP 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop 15-fa0000 (599K0AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Earlier, my HP Victus laptop used to drain only 5-10% before shutting down unexpectedly. However, now, as soon as the battery reaches around 35%, it suddenly drops to 0%, causing the laptop to power off. I then have to plug it in to turn it back on. My laptop is only a year old.

Is there a solution to this issue? Also, does this problem fall under warranty coverage?

this is my battery report as it can bee seen sudden breakdown nearly 35%.Screenshot 2025-02-10 014906.png

Hi @Peeyushsahu123. Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP Victus laptop’s battery has degraded or is experiencing calibration issues. Since your laptop is only a year old, this could be a battery calibration issue rather than a completely faulty battery. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

Check Battery Health

  1. Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run the following command: powercfg /batteryreport
  2. Locate and open the generated battery-report.html (usually found in C:\Windows\System32\battery-report.html).
  3. Look at the Battery Capacity History and Battery Life Estimates sections. Compare the Design Capacity vs. Full Charge Capacity. If the full charge capacity is significantly lower, your battery may have degraded.

Recalibrate Your Battery

Since your laptop shuts down at 35%, recalibrating the battery might help:

  1. Charge the laptop to 100%. Let it remain plugged in for at least 2 hours after reaching full charge.
  2. Drain the battery completely. Use your laptop normally until it shuts down on its own.
  3. Leave it off for 2-3 hours (to fully deplete any residual charge).
  4. Plug it back in and charge to 100% without interruption.
  5. Restart and check if the issue persists.

Update BIOS & Battery Drivers

Update the BIOS:

  • Go to the HP Support website and check for BIOS updates specific to your model.
  • Install any available updates.

Update or Reinstall Battery Drivers:

  • Open Device Manager → Expand Batteries.
  • Right-click Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery → Click Uninstall.
  • Restart your laptop, and Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.

Check for Windows Power Management Issues

  1. Open Control PanelPower Options.
  2. Select Balanced Mode and go to Change Plan Settings.
  3. Click Restore default settings for this plan.

Check Battery with HP Diagnostics

HP provides built-in diagnostics for hardware issues:

  1. Turn off your laptop.
  2. Press and hold the ESC key, then press the Power button.
  3. When the menu appears, press F2 to enter HP Hardware Diagnostics.
  4. Select Battery Test and follow the on-screen instructions.
  5. If the test shows a "Replace Battery" message, you may need a replacement.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
