Hi @ggkrk,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you might be dealing with a toolbar or dock that is either part of your Chromebook's interface or potentially an app that's causing it to appear.

Here are some things to try:

Check if it's the Shelf (Taskbar)

The "bar" you're describing could be the Chromebook's Shelf, which usually appears at the bottom of the screen, but it can be moved to any side. It shows apps or shortcuts.

To hide it:

  • Right-click (or tap the touchpad with two fingers) on the Shelf.
  • Look for an option like "Autohide" or "Shelf settings."
  • If you see "Autohide," make sure it is checked. This will make the Shelf disappear automatically when you are not hovering over it.

If it's a Floating Toolbar from an App

Sometimes, apps (like Chrome extensions) can create floating toolbars that show up on the screen. If that's the case:

  • Try closing any apps or extensions you recently opened to see if it goes away.
  • If you suspect it's from an extension, you can disable it by clicking the three dots in the top right of Chrome (next to your profile), going to More Tools > Extensions, and disabling them one by one to find the culprit.

Try Restarting the Chromebook

  • A simple restart might also remove it. You can restart your Chromebook by clicking on the time in the bottom-right corner, then clicking the power button to turn it off, and turning it back on.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
