Hi @kathvik,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the touchpad is working in the BIOS setup but not in Windows 10, there are several potential reasons for this issue. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.

Check Touchpad Settings:

  • Make sure that the touchpad is enabled in the Windows settings. Go to "Settings" > "Devices" > "Touchpad" and ensure that the touchpad is set to "On."

Update Touchpad Drivers:

  • Go to the Device Manager by right-clicking on the Start button and selecting "Device Manager."
  • Locate the "Mice and other pointing devices" category.
  • Right-click on the touchpad device and select "Update driver." Follow the on-screen instructions to update the driver.

Roll Back Touchpad Driver:

  • If updating the driver doesn't work, try rolling back to the previous driver version. In the Device Manager, right-click on the touchpad device, select "Properties," go to the "Driver" tab, and click "Roll Back Driver" if the option is available.

Reinstall Touchpad Drivers:

  • Uninstall the touchpad driver from the Device Manager, then restart your computer. Windows will reinstall the driver automatically. To uninstall the driver, right-click on the touchpad device in Device Manager and select "Uninstall device."

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Ensure that your Windows 10 operating system is fully updated. Sometimes, new updates include fixes for hardware compatibility issues. Go to "Settings" > "Update & Security" > "Windows Update" and check for updates.

Disable and Re-enable Touchpad:

  • In the Device Manager, right-click on the touchpad device, select "Disable," wait a moment, and then select "Enable."

Restore Windows to a Previous State:

  • If the issue started recently, you can try using the System Restore feature to revert Windows to a state where the touchpad was working. To do this, type "Create a restore point" in the Windows search bar, go to the "System Protection" tab, and click "System Restore."

Check for Third-Party Software Conflicts:

  • Some third-party applications or drivers might conflict with the touchpad. Try disabling or uninstalling any third-party touchpad-related software.

Run Hardware Troubleshooter:

  • Open the Settings app, go to "Update & Security" > "Troubleshoot" > "Additional troubleshooters." Run the "Hardware and Devices" troubleshooter.

Check Group Policy Settings:

  • Press Win + R, type gpedit.msc and press Enter. Navigate to "Computer Configuration" > "Administrative Templates" > "Windows Components" > "Windows Update" and ensure that "Do not include drivers with Windows Updates" is set to "Disabled."

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it's possible that there's a hardware problem with the touchpad.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
