Microsoft Windows 11

When I use my touchpad the touch screen flickers or goes black.  Most of the time I can get it to come back by touching the screen. I have updated all my drivers, the bios is up to date and Windows 11 is up to date.  I upgraded to Windows 11 several months ago with no problems.  The problem started 2 weeks ago.  Rebooting/restarting sometime fixes the problem temporarily but not always.

I have run system diagnostic, component diagnostics and the touchpad failed once but then passed the next 2 times.

I normally use the laptop plugged in as the battery does not hold a charge.

Is this a touch pad hardware problem that can be fixed/replaced on my laptop or some other problem?

Hello.

You mentioned running diagnostics. Was this in Windows or did you restart your computer into the built-in diagnostics mode?

Just to rule out possible Windows driver problems it is better to run the offline diagnostics.

Also, if you enter the computer BIOS settings does the screen still show symptoms when navigating with touch pad? If the screen still has problems in the BIOS or in offline diagnostics, this is 100% hardware problem. Impossible to say without further diagnostics or spare part changes what the exact cause of problems is.

If you have warranty left, contact HP for service. Even without warranty you can have the laptop serviced by HP or their affiliates. They will diagnose the exact problem and you will be told how much the repairs will cost.

I restarted the computer hit esc then did the diagnostics test.  The symptoms of the screen flickering and going black did NOT occur in the BIOS setting although the mouse movement was skittish, oversensitive or jumped a bit. The component test was much more difficult than it needed to be because of the mouse jumping on the screen.

How do I find an HP service center?
