Step-by-Step Fix for Touchscreen Not Working on HP 17 (Windows 11)

 

1. Confirm Touchscreen Is Enabled in Device Manager

Sometimes Windows disables the touchscreen after an update or power event.

  • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager
  • Expand Human Interface Devices
  • Look for HID-compliant touch screen
    • If it’s listed, right-click and choose Enable device
    • If already enabled, try Disable, then Enable again
  • Restart your laptop and test touch input

If the device is missing entirely, continue to step 2.

 

2. Scan for Hardware Changes

This forces Windows to detect missing touchscreen hardware.

  • In Device Manager, click Action > Scan for hardware changes
  • If the touchscreen reappears, enable it as above
  • If not, proceed to reinstall drivers

 

3. Reinstall Touchscreen Drivers

Corrupted or outdated drivers can cause the touchscreen to stop responding.

  • Go to the HP 17 Driver Page
  • Download and install the latest:
    • Intel chipset drivers
    • Graphics drivers
    • Touchscreen or Input drivers (if listed)

  • Restart your laptop and press Esc or F10 repeatedly to enter BIOS
  • Navigate to Advanced > Built-in Device Options
  • Ensure Touchscreen is Enabled
  • Save and exit BIOS
