Hi @kingLeo1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I am sorry to hear that the touch screen on your HP 17-by3016cy laptop has stopped working and the HID touch screen driver is missing or grayed out in the Device Manager, you can try the following troubleshooting steps:

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Make sure your Windows operating system is up-to-date. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.

Use HP Support Assistant:

  • Open the HP Support Assistant application to check for any driver updates specifically for your device. If you don't have it installed, you can download it from the HP Support Assistant page.

Enable the Touch Screen:

  • Sometimes the touch screen may be disabled. Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Pen and Touch, select the Touch tab, and make sure the box labeled "Use your finger as an input device" is checked.

Reinstall HID Drivers:

  • In Device Manager, right-click on the category of Human Interface Devices and select Scan for hardware changes. This might detect the missing HID-compliant touch driver and reinstall it.

Check BIOS Settings:

  • Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing F10 or the Esc key during startup). Navigate to the configuration settings to ensure that the touch screen is enabled.

Perform System Restore:

  • If the touch screen was working before a recent change, consider performing a system restore to a previous point when it was working. Go to Control Panel > Recovery > Open System Restore.

Take care and have an amazing day!
