pavilion

i have a 17" Pavilion and the touchpad continually "double clicks" when clicked once on the left part of the touchpad. It doesnt do it every time but often enough that when playing games it costs moves and during regular internet use it takes me into screens i dont want to go to,   

 

I havent been able to figure out how to disable or fix this online.  ANy help would be appreciated.  It is annoying enough i would rather use my old laptop and toss this HP.

I see from your post that you're having issues with the touchpad not working properly on your HP Pavilion notebook. Don't worry we'll work together to help you find a solution

 

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

What is the product number of the notebook? Use this link to find it:  https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03754824  (Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).

Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall the touchpad drivers?

Have you tried to run a test on the touchpad from F2?

 

In the meantime, let's try these steps here: 

 

Let's start off by performing a Hard reset on the notebook

Before power resetting your computer, do the following:

  1. Disconnect or remove all peripheral devices. Start up the laptop and test the computer by itself, and then reconnect one peripheral device at a time.

  2. Turn over the computer and look for a battery compartment door.

 I recommend to restore the BIOS defaults.You could restore the BIOS with this document selecting the reloading the BIOS default settings. That way it will look at the Hardware installed on the Notebook.

Once done, restart the computer and check.

 

Next thing, I would suggest here is to Run Windows Updates troubleshooter -

 

Download and install the troubleshooter from this link.

 

Now try to perform Windows Updates - 

 

1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates. 
2) Check for updates. 
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer. 

 

If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to uninstall the touchpad drivers from device manager.

  • Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Command Prompt. 

  • At a command prompt, type the following command , and then press ENTER: 

set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 

  • Type the following command a command prompt, and then press ENTER: 

start devmgmt.msc 

  • Troubleshoot the devices and drivers in Device Manager. 
    NOTE: Click Show hidden devices on the View menu in Device Manager before you can see devices that are not connected to the computer. 

  • When you finish troubleshooting, close Device Manager. 

  • Type exit at the command prompt. 
     
    Note that when you close the command prompt window, Window clears the devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 variable that you set in step 2 and prevents ghosted devices from being displayed when you click Show hidden devices. 

And then download a new version of the synaptic drivers using this link: Click here  

 

If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to update the Bios, Chipset and Synaptics drivers either from our HP support website using this link or download and install it using HP support Assistant.

To 

download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.

Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.

 

If the issue still persists, I would suggest you run a test on the touchpad from F2 ( Component test - Touchpad/mouse), Please remember to capture the failure ID for further assistance.
