Hi @Jonathan147,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If the touchpad on your HP laptop is not working, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.
Check if the Touchpad is Disabled
- Enable the Touchpad: Look for a key on your keyboard with a touchpad icon (often on the F5, F6, or F7 key). Press Fn + [Touchpad key] to toggle the touchpad on/off.
- Touchpad Button: Some laptops have a physical button near the touchpad or allow double-tapping the top-left corner of the touchpad to enable/disable it.
Restart Your Laptop
- Restarting your device can often resolve temporary glitches.
Check Touchpad Settings
- Windows:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
- Ensure the touchpad is enabled.
- Mac:
- Go to System Preferences > Trackpad.
- Check that all settings are enabled.
Update or Roll Back Drivers
- Update Driver:
- Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
- Right-click the touchpad driver and select Update driver.
- Roll Back Driver:
- Right-click the touchpad driver and choose Properties.
- Under the Driver tab, select Roll Back Driver if available.
Reinstall the Touchpad Driver
- Go to Device Manager.
- Right-click the touchpad device and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your laptop; Windows should reinstall the driver automatically. If not, download the latest driver from HP's support website.
Run HP Diagnostic Tools
- Use the HP Support Assistant to diagnose and fix touchpad issues:
- Open HP Support Assistant.
- Select Troubleshooting and Fixes > Diagnostics.

Check for Physical Damage
- Inspect the touchpad for any visible damage or debris. Clean it gently with a soft, dry cloth.
External Mouse
- Test with an external USB mouse to verify whether the issue is with the touchpad itself or a broader system problem.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
