Hi @Hifsa,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it is when your HP laptop’s touchpad stops working, especially when you’ve already tried uninstalling the Synaptics driver and it didn’t reinstall after reboot. You're doing everything right by checking updates and trying to fix it manually. Let’s get this sorted.

Step-by-Step Fix for Missing Touchpad Driver on Windows 11

1. Download the Correct Driver

You can download the latest Synaptics or ELAN touchpad driver directly from HP’s official support page:

🔗 Official HP® Support

  • Enter your exact laptop model (e.g., HP Pavilion 15-fd1000).
  • Select Windows 11 (64-bit).
  • Expand “Driver – Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices”.
  • Download and install the Synaptics Touchpad Driver or ELAN Touchpad Driver.

2. Enable Touchpad in Windows Settings

Sometimes the touchpad is disabled in settings:

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad.
  • Make sure the toggle is ON.

3. Manually Install Microsoft Precision Touchpad Driver

If the Synaptics driver doesn’t reinstall:

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
  • Right-click any listed device and choose Update driver.
  • Select Browse my computer for drivers > Let me pick from a list.
  • Choose an HID-compliant touchpad or Microsoft Precision Touchpad.

4. Let Windows Reinstall the Driver Automatically

If nothing works:

  • In Device Manager, uninstall the touchpad device again.
  • Check “Delete the driver software for this device” if available.
  • Restart your laptop Windows should reinstall a generic driver.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Before trying to track down the driver - go ahead and install the HP Diagnostic UEFI utility and reboot into it (F2 at startup). Run the component test in this utility to make sure it works and or test you have touchpad control in the BIOS(outside the OS). If that works (good), move on to installing the appropriate driver in Windows per the earlier instructions. Good luck!

Hi Vikram,

Many thanks for the reply, but I have already tried all these steps and they are not working for me, when I go to the HP support website, it only goes up till windows 10 and do not give me an option to select windows 11.
