Hi @aash632,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The Code 45 error you're encountering indicates that Windows is not detecting the hardware connection for your touchpad, even though it's installed. Since reinstalling the driver didn't resolve the issue, here are some steps you can try to further troubleshoot.
Check for Loose Connections or Hardware Damage
- Since the error implies that the hardware is not connected, there might be a physical issue with the touchpad. Check if there is any visible damage or loose connections (if you're comfortable opening the laptop), to inspect the internal connections.
Update BIOS
- Sometimes a BIOS update can help resolve hardware detection issues.
- Visit HP's support website, enter your laptop model (HP Pavilion x360 14), and check if there's a newer BIOS version available.
- Follow the instructions to update your BIOS.
Check Device Manager for Hidden Devices
- Open Device Manager.
- Click on View and select Show hidden devices.
- Check if the ELAN Touchpad appears as a hidden device. If so, right-click and Uninstall the device, then restart your laptop.
Reinstall the Chipset Driver
- Reinstalling the chipset driver could resolve issues related to hardware communication.
- Go to HP’s support site and download the latest chipset drivers for your Pavilion x360 14 Convertible PC.
- After installation, restart your system and check if the touchpad works.
Disable and Re-enable the Touchpad in BIOS
- Enter the BIOS settings (usually by pressing F10 during startup).
- Look for the Touchpad settings under Advanced or Peripheral Devices.
- Disable the touchpad, save changes, and restart. Then re-enter the BIOS and enable the touchpad again.
Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
- HP laptops come with built-in hardware diagnostics that can help identify hardware issues.
- Shut down your laptop, then press the Power button and immediately press Esc repeatedly to enter the Startup Menu.
- Select System Diagnostics and run a component test for the touchpad.
Windows Update
- Make sure your Windows is fully updated. Sometimes, an operating system update can resolve driver-related issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi @aash632,
Thank you for your response,
It looks like you need to reinstall the ELAN touchpad driver on your HP Pavilion x360 14, but HP doesn't offer an updated driver for your current Windows 11 (23H2) version. Here are some possible steps to help you resolve the issue.
Steps to Fix the Missing ELAN Touchpad Driver:
Check for Windows Update Drivers:
- Go to Settings > Windows Update.
- Click on Advanced options > Optional updates.
- Look for any driver updates listed here, especially for the ELAN touchpad. If found, install them and restart your system.
Use Device Manager to Install the Driver Manually:
- Open Device Manager (right-click on the Start button and select it).
- Look for the Human Interface Devices section and locate any entry for the touchpad. It might be labeled as an unknown device or I2C HID Device.
- Right-click on the device and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers. If Windows can’t find a driver, you can try selecting Browse my computer for drivers > Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer, and choose the ELAN or compatible touchpad driver manually.
Use a Generic Driver from Windows:
- Sometimes Windows installs a generic touchpad driver that can work. Go to Device Manager, right-click on your touchpad (even if it’s listed as unknown), and select Update driver > Browse my computer for drivers > Let me pick from a list. You may find a generic touchpad driver here that can temporarily restore functionality.
Install Previous Version Driver (from an earlier OS):
- If HP doesn’t offer a driver for your OS version, you can try installing a driver for a slightly older version (e.g., Windows 11 22H2 or even Windows 10).
- Go to the HP Support page for your model, search for the Pavilion x360 14 drivers, and download a Windows 11 or Windows 10 ELAN touchpad driver.
- Run the installer in compatibility mode:
- Right-click on the driver installer file and select Properties.
- Go to the Compatibility tab, check Run this program in compatibility mode for, and select Windows 10.
- After installation, restart your laptop.
Perform a System Restore:
- If the issue started recently after a system update or accidental driver removal, you can try a System Restore to revert your system to a point where the touchpad was working.
- Go to Control Panel > Recovery > Open System Restore and follow the prompts.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

I tried doing them all but none of those helped. When I tried installing previous driver version from hp website(I downloaded ELAN driver for 22H2) and tried running it in compatibility mode there was no Windows 10 available in option. The options available were Windows 8 and before. Please provide ELAN setup (the complete package)for windows 11 or atleast 10 . Also I have already tried unblocking the driver before installing. It too didnt help.
