Hi @5UYGSYUEG,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how annoying it is when your touchpad’s two-finger scrolling stops randomly on your new Victus, only to start working again after a restart. That interruptive cycle isn’t ideal for a smooth workflow. Here's a more reliable, step-by-step approach to permanently resolve it:

1. Toggle the Touchpad On/Off

Touchpads on HP laptops sometimes disable and re-enable with a double-tap on the top-left corner:

  • Try double-tapping the upper-left corner of the touchpad.
  • A small LED or icon usually indicates if it’s active or disabled.

This quick toggle can immediately restore scrolling functionality.

2. Perform a Hard Reset

Clearing temporary hardware settings often fixes intermittent input issues:

  1. Power off the laptop.
  2. Disconnect the AC adapter and any peripherals.
  3. Press and hold the power button for ~15 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power and start the laptop.

This resets embedded controllers and refreshes driver states.

3. Update or Reinstall Touchpad Driver

Even if drivers are “up to date,” reinstalling can fix glitches:

  1. Open Device Manager → expand Mice & other pointing devices.
  2. Locate your touchpad (likely ELAN or Synaptics), right-click → Update driver.
  3. Or choose Uninstall device, reboot, and let Windows automatically reinstall the driver.
  4. For full control, visit the Official HP® Support site for your Victus model and download the official driver.

4. Examine Touchpad Settings

Ensure gestures are properly enabled:

  • Go to Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Touchpad.
  • Ensure Two-finger scrolling is turned ON, and sensitivity is set to medium/high.
  • Disable features like "Tap with three fingers" if they conflict.

Additionally, some laptops include a PalmCheck-like setting; turning this off can reduce recognition conflicts.

5. Run Touchpad Diagnostic

HP provides a built-in hardware test:

  1. Restart the laptop and repeatedly press ESC, then press F2 to open PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  2. Navigate to Component Tests → Mouse/Touchpad → run the specific test.

This confirms whether the hardware is functioning properly.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
