Hi @Adam1943,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you’re dealing with a touchpad issue after a recent update. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the problem:
1. Reboot Your Laptop
Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve hardware issues after updates.
2. Check Touchpad Settings
- Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
- Ensure that the touchpad is enabled. There might be an option to toggle it on/off.
3. Update Touchpad Drivers
- Open Device Manager (right-click the Start menu and select it).
- Find Mice and other pointing devices, and look for your touchpad driver.
- Right-click the driver and select Update driver. You can choose to search automatically for updated driver software.
4. Roll Back Driver
If the touchpad started malfunctioning after the recent update, you might want to roll back the driver:
- In Device Manager, right-click the touchpad driver.
- Select Properties, go to the Driver tab, and click Roll Back Driver if the option is available.
5. Reinstall Touchpad Driver
- In Device Manager, right-click the touchpad driver and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your laptop, and Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.
6. Check for Windows Updates
Make sure your system is up to date, as there may be patches or updates that can resolve the issue:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and check for updates.
7. Restore Previous System State
If the problem persists, consider restoring your system to a previous state before the update:
- Search for System Restore in the Start menu.
- Follow the prompts to restore to a point before the update.
8. External Mouse Test
If you have an external mouse, connect it to see if the touchpad issue persists when using the mouse.
9. Check BIOS Settings
Sometimes touchpad functionality can be disabled in the BIOS:
- Restart your laptop and enter BIOS/UEFI (usually by pressing Esc, F2, or Del during startup).
- Look for any touchpad settings and ensure it’s enabled.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
