Hi @clemmy420 ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems like after updating the touchpad driver on your HP 17.3 Inch Laptop PC (model 17-C0000), the backlight functionality that was previously activated by touching the touchpad is no longer working. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:
Restart Your Laptop: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve minor software glitches. Restart your laptop and check if the backlight functionality returns.
Check Touchpad Settings:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
- Ensure that all touchpad settings are correctly configured. Look for options related to touchpad backlighting. Some laptops have specific settings related to turning on backlighting upon touch.
Update Touchpad Driver:
- If you recently updated the touchpad driver and the issue started after that, consider rolling back the driver to the previous version:
- Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
- Locate the touchpad driver under Mice and other pointing devices.
- Right-click on the touchpad driver and select Properties.
- Go to the Driver tab and choose Roll Back Driver if it's available. Follow the on-screen instructions.
- If rolling back the driver isn't an option or doesn't work, you can try updating the driver to the latest version from the HP website or using Windows Update.
Check BIOS Settings:
- Sometimes, BIOS settings can affect hardware functionalities. Access your laptop's BIOS (usually by pressing a specific key during startup, like F2 or Del), and check if there are any settings related to the touchpad or keyboard backlighting. Ensure they are enabled if necessary.
HP Support Assistant:
- Use HP's Support Assistant software to check for any updates or specific fixes related to your laptop model. It can sometimes provide firmware updates or settings adjustments that address such issues.
