Pavilion AB221NL
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, I just recently brough a notebook hp pavilion ab221nl and I found myself having troubles with the Touchpad. The thing is, when I tried to play a game I just installed, I found myself unable to walk and turn the visual at the same time in-game. I can either walk or turn the visual, and cannot do both at the same time. I tried in another game as well, but the problem persists. Is it only a problem for my pc or is it something normal? and is there a way to resolve this? or do I have to buy a mouse? because I'd really rather not. I hate using a mouse, especially for a notebook. Does someone please have a solution?

Hi,

Hopefully it will be straight forward to solve :generic:

As I mentioned, you should just need to turn off SmartSense or PalmCheck the Synaptics control panel - however from what I've seen, this no longer seems to work for Windows 10 versions of this driver ( or any of the 18/19 series drivers ).

You may be able to get around this as follows.

First, download the Synaptics driver on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.

Synaptics Driver Version 17.0.18.8

Turn off your wireless card ( should be f12 ).

Open windows control panel, open Programs and Features, right click the current Synaptics driver and select Uninstall.

When complete, restart the notebook.

When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder and run the Synaptics installer - when this has completed, restart the notebook again.

Open windows Control Panel and in the top right, next to View by: select 'Large Icons'.  From the new layout, select the Synaptics entry.

Disable SmartSense or PalmCheck ( set the slider to Off ) and then check if the touchpad will now work with a keyboard key held down.

If it does, turn your wireless card back on and use the utility on the following link to prevent Windows 10 from automatically updating the Synaptics driver.

Hi,

This problem is usually caused by a touchpad setting that is meant to prevent accidental activation of the pad when typing.

What type of TouchPad does your notebook have (ELAN or Synaptics) and what is the current driver version?

If you're not sure, you can find this as follows.

Hold down the Windows key and press R.

Into the Run box type devmgmt.msc and hit enter.

Expand 'Mice and other pointing devices' - the device name will be listed here.

Right click the device, select Properties and then select the Driver tab - the current driver version will be listed here.

Regards,

So it is really something pretty simple to resolve? How do I do it? I have a Synaptics Touchpad and the driver version is 19.0.12.97

Thank you for replying

Hi,

I have the same issue as described by the thread starter. I tried all your steps, but the the v17. driver just won't install on my computer (HP Notebook - 15-ay019ca ). Even after the installation wizard said that it was installed, the driver doesn't show up in the device manager and the programs and features menus (I restarted my computer). So I just reverted back to the v19. since having no drivers make the touchpad really awkward.
