Hi @timcat2,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your HP Envy 17 laptop not recognizing the touchscreen!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Verify Touchscreen Hardware:

  • Ensure that your specific laptop model includes touchscreen capability. Not all HP Envy models have touchscreens as a standard feature.

Device Manager:

  • Open Device Manager by pressing Windows + X and selecting Device Manager.
  • Expand Human Interface Devices and look for items related to touch input, such as "HID-compliant touch screen".
  • If your touchscreen device is disabled, right-click it and select Enable.

Windows Update:

  • Check for any pending Windows Updates, as they might include touchscreen driver updates.
  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and click Check for updates.

HP Support Assistant:

  • Use HP Support Assistant to check for driver updates for your laptop.
  • Launch HP Support Assistant and run a complete check to see if drivers, including those for the touchscreen, are up-to-date.

BIOS Settings:

  • Restart your computer and press Esc during startup, then press F10 to enter BIOS Setup.
  • Look for any settings related to touch input. If there's an option to enable the touchscreen, ensure it's turned on.

Registry Editor:

  • Use Registry Editor cautiously; incorrect changes might lead to system issues.
  • Press Windows + R, type regedit, and hit Enter.
  • Navigate to the following path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Wisp\Touch.
  • Check for entries related to touch input; changes here are risky and generally not recommended without specific guidance.

I hope this helps.
