I've had this computer for 2.5 years. Until a couple of months ago, the touchscreen worked fine. Now it has decided to stop and I don't know how to fix it. The touchscreen was initially working after an upgrade to Windows 10 a few months ago.
Facts-
- In Device Manager, under Monitors, it only lists Generic PnP monitor
- In About Your PC, under Pen and Touch, it says No Pen or Touch input is available for the display
- In Human Interface Devices, the only things listed are HID Compliant wireless radio controls and HP wireless button driver. There is no mention of the HID info for the touchscreen/monitor
- I have tried hard reboot with battery removal
It appears to me it is not recognizing the monitor. Perhaps it needs a driver? I have been trouble shooting to the best of my knowledge and research and am stumped.
I have looked for what the monitor is called for this computer so I could search for more specific info, and haven't found the info.
If someone out there can assist me so I can again touch my screen and have it know I'm there, I would greatly appreciate it!
Thank you.

I understand that you have had your notebook for about 2.5 years. Until about two months ago your touchscreen worked fine. You have checked and the touchscreen is not listed in Device Manager. Here is a link to HP PCs - Troubleshooting Touch Screen Issues (Windows 10, 😎 that should help you to overcome this difficulty. Thanks for your reply.
I have gone through the steps in that link and went through them again.
1) Before you begin, verify the computer has a touch screen- DONE. I've used it successfully until recently. Please note when I "View the Pen and Touch Info" it reads no pen and touch info is available telling us the screen isn't being recognized.
2) & 3) Screen does not respond to stylus/touch-- DONE. Hard reset was peformed. Touch Screen driver in Device Manager isn't availalbe to enable as the screen isn't recognized as even existing. Touch Screen Driver can't be reinstalled-- the monitor doesn't show under Human Interface Devices to install it. Windows is updates. Bios and Graphics drivers have been updated. Touch screen diagnostic test was performed and the touch monitor did not show in the list. Etc.
5) Touchscreen function changed after upgrading to Windows 10- No touch function working at all
So-- we have used all problem-solving suggestions from this link with no luck. There is still no touch and still lists only "Generic PnP monitor" under device manager.
Thank you.

HI @Nertle,
Thank you for the update.
I see that the touchscreen is recognized in the BIOS as you could run the test, but it is not listed in Device Manager. Do you see anything under HID? You only see the Monitor as Generic PnP. Have you run the HP Support Assistant to aid with acquiring updated drivers? If no updates are found, please try the following.
- Go to Device Manager
- Uninstall and delete the driver
- Click actions and scan for hardware changes
Please let me know the results.

Nope. I never found a solution.
My touchscreen is now just another monitor. Probably won't get one of these again.
I'm sure we're not alone in this issue. Seems like someone should be able to tell us why they stopped working and no longer show as even touch-ready.

Happening to me too now. Havent even updated to Windows 10 from 8, just suddenly stopped working after turning my computer on for the first time in a long time..although everything else is working fine. Have gone through absolutely all the steps and more for the past 3 hours trying to figure something out. BS.
