Since I bought my spectre 360 touchscreen last year I've been noticing visible scratches. I do use a stylus (plastic) but never aggressively to cause these scratches. I have researched what might have caused this as it mostly comes up as a design flaw in the laptop itself. I have tried going to the store where I bought it, as I thought my one year warranty would cover this issue and at the time of the purchase I was told a screen protector would do more damage to my laptop screen, however they turned me away and said hardware issues were not part of the warranty; I cannot return this as it was sold at a discount to me since the back logo was pulled off my magnets and still paid near £1000. As of late the scratches only increase and expand in size, dramatically reducing the quality of my screen. Is there anyway to fix this issue and prevent it from happening in the future? I'm not familiar with how HP operates but is there a way to file a support ticket to get them to fix this issue?

Hi @tazzlewurm

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I am truly sorry to hear about the scratches appearing on your Spectre x360 touchscreen. I understand how disheartening it must be to see the quality of your display diminish over time, especially when you’ve taken care to use a stylus gently. I appreciate the effort you’ve already made in researching the issue and visiting the store for assistance.

To help protect your screen and minimize further damage, here are some steps you can try:

  • Clean the screen regularly with a microfiber cloth slightly dampened with distilled water. This helps remove dust or particles that could worsen scratches.
  • Avoid using paper towels, tissues, or abrasive cloths, as they can leave micro-abrasions.
  • Consider applying a high-quality tempered glass screen protector designed for the Spectre x360. This adds a protective layer and prevents new scratches from forming.
  • When using a stylus, ensure the tip is smooth and free of wear. Replacing worn tips can reduce friction against the screen.
  • Keep the laptop closed when not in use to avoid accidental contact with objects that may scratch the surface.

If you’d like to explore repair or service options, you can file a support request directly through HP’s official support portal:

Thank you so much for taking time to read this and to reply! and also for the tips to minimise the damage!

however what i am looking for is a way to get rid of these scratches, as it even affects the touchscreen use such as not registering my input. Also any recommendations for a high quality screen protector?

For some reason i cannot find a way to directly ask for a repair, and it seems to redirect me back to the hp support community instead of finding a way to file some sort of ticket.

You are very welcome @tazzlewurm

You’ve already taken careful steps to minimize damage, and I appreciate the effort you’ve put in. Let’s focus on what can be done to improve the situation and prevent further issues.

Addressing Existing Scratches

Unfortunately, once scratches are present on a glass touchscreen, they cannot be fully removed without replacing the display. Polishing compounds or DIY remedies often risk worsening clarity or damaging the touch sensitivity. The most reliable option to restore smooth touch response is a screen replacement through service.

Preventing Further Damage

Here are practical steps to help protect your screen going forward:

  • Apply a tempered glass screen protector: This adds a sacrificial layer that takes the wear instead of the display. Look for protectors specifically designed for the Spectre x360 to ensure proper fit and touch responsiveness.
  • Use a microfiber cloth for cleaning: Always wipe gently with a clean microfiber cloth. Avoid abrasive materials.
  • Check stylus tips regularly: Even plastic tips can wear down and develop rough edges. Replacing them when worn helps reduce friction.
  • Close the laptop when not in use: This prevents accidental contact with objects that may scratch the screen.

Screen Protector Recommendations

For a high-quality protector, choose one that is:

  • Tempered glass (not plastic film) for durability and clarity.
  • Anti-glare or oleophobic coated to resist fingerprints.
  • Specifically cut for the Spectre x360 model to maintain touch accuracy.
