HP Chromebook - 14-db0003na
Chrome OS

hello for the past year i have had problems with track pad. it lags and jitters and when this happens the chrome book can become unresponsive and freeze, i have tired googling and researching and have tried many solutions.

i do not know much about chrome books or tech and i am starting to assume its a hardware problem

i am a student and i am trying to resolve this as price effective as possible, as well as the chrome book it self works perfectly other than this issue. i have lost essays due to this issue.

any help would be much appriciated.

Hi @Major5503,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing trackpad problems with your HP Chromebook. Trackpad issues can be frustrating, but there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the problem.

  • Clean the trackpad: Sometimes, dirt or debris on the trackpad surface can cause it to malfunction. Use a soft cloth or a microfiber cloth to gently clean the trackpad.
  • Restart your Chromebook: A simple restart can often resolve minor software glitches. Press and hold the power button until the Chromebook turns off, then press the power button again to turn it back on.
  • Check for updates: Make sure your Chromebook is running the latest version of Chrome OS. Go to the settings menu (click on the clock icon in the bottom-right corner and then click the gear icon) and navigate to "About Chrome OS." Click on "Check for updates" and install any available updates.
  • Disable and re-enable the trackpad: Sometimes, toggling the trackpad off and on can help resolve issues. Press the Shift key five times quickly to enable the sticky keys menu, then click on "Enable mouse keys" and toggle it on. After that, toggle it off again and check if the trackpad is working.
  • Powerwash your Chromebook: If the above steps don't resolve the issue, you can try performing a powerwash. This will reset your Chromebook to its factory settings, so make sure to back up any important data before proceeding. To powerwash, go to the settings menu, click on "Advanced," then click on "Powerwash" and follow the on-screen instructions.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
