try to connect hp pavilion laptop to a dell montior and does not work

I have a hp paviolion (LAPTOP-HK25OHMF) and Dell monitor (SP1908FPt). I tried to connect the laptop to the monitor,  using laptop's HDMI connected with a converter cable and then to the monitor's VGA., and it did not work.  Using the setup/display in window 10, the laptop showed it can not find the monitor. Can somebody give me some advice? Thanks.

Firstly LAPTOP-HK25OHMF is an invalid model/product.

What is it ? is it a proper converter from digital (HDMI) to analog (VGA) ?

Looking at the cable from Amazon

I can't see how they can convert from digital to analog with that cable. Please return ot and buy a different one with a PROPER converter.
