Hi @GreenAsh

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand the concern. Since the brightness issue started after a recent update on your HP 255R 15.6 inch G10 Notebook PC, it may be related to the display or graphics driver settings that changed during the update.

Please try the following:

  1. Press F2 and F3 (or the brightness keys on the top row) and check if the brightness indicator appears on the screen.
  2. Restart the notebook and verify whether brightness adjustment works before signing in to Windows.
  3. Open Device Manager > Display adapters and expand the section. Share the name of the graphics adapter listed there.
  4. In Device Manager, expand Monitors and confirm whether Generic PnP Monitor is shown without any warning symbols.
  5. Run Windows Update and install any remaining optional driver updates, then restart the notebook.
  6. Open HP Support Assistant and check for any HP graphics, chipset, or BIOS updates available for the device.

To better understand the issue, please let us know:

  • Which version of Windows are you currently using?
  • Is the brightness slider missing completely, or does it move without changing screen brightness?
  • Did the issue begin immediately after a Windows update, BIOS update, or HP update?

Once we have these details, we'll guide you with the next specific steps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
