This could be a pin 20 problem, or the signal from some of the laptops is not strong enough.  I had the same problem after replacing a GTX-1060 with a GTX-1070Ti. I was unable to drive the monitor (a TV) and had to remove a right angle HDMI, the HDMI switch, an HDMI pass-though adapter and had to buy an expensive cable and run it directly to the alt input of the TV.  The new graphics board simply did not out a good enough signal.

If you do get new Display Port cables make sure they do not have the pin 20 problem

I asked Google's AI about a weak signal and it overshared as usual:

To boost a weak DisplayPort signal, the most common solution is to replace your DisplayPort cable with a new, high-quality one as a faulty cable is often the primary cause of a weak signal; you can also try using a DisplayPort signal booster or checking for secure connections at both the monitor and computer end, and potentially adjusting your graphics card settings if necessary. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Here are a few steps to troubleshoot and boost your DisplayPort signal: [1, 4, 5]
  • Check the cable: [1, 4, 5]
    • Inspect for damage: Look for any visible signs of wear and tear like fraying, bends, or broken connectors on the cable. [1, 4, 5]
    • Try a different cable: Swap your current DisplayPort cable with a new, high-quality cable to see if the issue persists. [1, 2, 4]
    • Ensure secure connection: Double-check that the cable is fully plugged into both the monitor and computer ports. [1, 2, 6]
  • Use a DisplayPort signal booster: [3, 7, 8]
    • Active repeaters: Consider using a dedicated DisplayPort signal booster (also called an active repeater) which can amplify the signal over longer distances. [3, 7, 8]
  • Monitor settings: [2, 6, 9]
    • Check display settings: Ensure your monitor settings are optimized for the resolution and refresh rate you are using. [2, 6, 9]
  • Graphics card settings: [2, 9]
    • Update drivers: Update your graphics card drivers to the latest version as outdated drivers can sometimes cause signal issues. [2, 9]
    • Adjust settings: Depending on your graphics card, you may be able to adjust settings related to DisplayPort output quality. [2, 6, 9]
Important points to consider: [7, 8]
  • Cable length: Longer cables can sometimes weaken the signal, so if possible, use a shorter cable for better signal strength. [7, 8]
  • DisplayPort version: Ensure your cable is compatible with the DisplayPort version supported by your monitor and computer. [3, 7, 10]
  • Port issues: If you suspect the issue is with the DisplayPort port itself, try using a different port on your computer or monitor. [2, 6, 8]

Generative AI is experimental.
