HP ENVY x360 Laptop - 15-ed0004nb
Microsoft Windows 11

when opening google meet for a videocall, the webcam does not work. it gives the message "meet can not use the camera".

when opening the app 'camera', the image is fine and camera works.
I doublechecked to update the driver, gave permission to office and google meet to use the camera, ran the HP analytics without result.

Same is valid for microsoft teams.

What could be the issue, i am missing ?

Hi @mastertom,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP ENVY x360 Laptop's webcam works in the Camera app but not in Google Meet or Microsoft Teams, here are some troubleshooting steps you can take to resolve the issue.

Check Camera Permissions in Browser:

  • Ensure that your browser has permission to use the camera.
  • In Chrome, click the lock icon in the address bar when on the Google Meet page, then select "Site settings" and ensure the camera is set to "Allow."
  • For Microsoft Teams (if using in a browser), do the same steps.

Browser Settings:

  • Clear your browser's cache and cookies, then restart the browser.
  • Try using a different browser (e.g., Firefox or Edge) to see if the issue persists.

Close Other Applications:

  • Ensure that no other applications are using the webcam when you try to access Google Meet or Teams. Close any apps like Zoom, Skype, or the Camera app.

Restart Your Laptop:

  • A simple restart can often resolve issues by resetting the system's state.

Update Browser:

  • Ensure that your web browser is up to date, as outdated versions may have compatibility issues with webcam functionalities.

Antivirus/Firewall Settings:

  • Sometimes, antivirus software or firewall settings can block webcam access. Check your security software to ensure that it’s not interfering.

Check Windows Privacy Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Privacy > Camera and ensure that "Allow apps to access your camera" is turned on.
  • Also, check if Google Meet and Microsoft Teams are listed under "Choose which apps can access your camera" and ensure they are enabled.

Reinstall the Apps:

  • If using desktop apps for Teams, try uninstalling and reinstalling the app to see if that resolves the issue.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Make sure your Windows operating system is fully updated, as updates may include fixes for camera-related issues.

Check Device Manager:

  • Go to Device Manager, expand "Imaging devices," right-click on your webcam, and select Uninstall device. Then restart your laptop, and Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
