Victus by HP Gaming Laptop 15-fa0000 (680A4AV)

I am facing an issue with the built-in webcam on my Victus by HP Gaming Laptop 15-fa0xxx.

The camera shows errors such as 0xA00F4240 (0x80004003) and sometimes 0xA00F4244. The HP Wide Vision HD Camera is sometimes detected in Device Manager and sometimes disappears completely.

I have already tried:

  • Camera privacy settings
  • Camera app repair/reset
  • Microsoft UVC/USB Video Device driver
  • Uninstalling and rescanning the camera device
  • Windows Update rollback
  • DISM /RestoreHealth — completed successfully
  • SFC /scannow — no integrity violations found
  • HP UEFI Webcam Connection Test — PASSED

  • When I open the Camera app, the camera LED blinks repeatedly. The camera keeps turning on and off very quickly, and the Camera app shows error 0xA00F4240 <Unknown> (0x80004003).
  • Yes, the small LED next to the camera blinks repeatedly when I open the Camera app.
  • The same problem happens in every app that uses the webcam, not only the Windows Camera app.

The camera hardware test passes, but Windows Camera cannot use the webcam.

Based on the troubleshooting you've already completed, the software and driver side has been covered quite thoroughly, and most common software-related causes have likely been ruled out.

Although the HP UEFI Webcam Test passes, it does not completely guarantee that the webcam hardware is functioning properly. UEFI tests mainly verify basic device detection and functionality, and may not detect intermittent hardware or connection issues.

Since you mentioned that:

  • The webcam sometimes appears in Device Manager and sometimes disappears.
  • The webcam LED continuously blinks when the camera is accessed.

I would recommend one additional test: slowly adjust the display lid angle while monitoring Device Manager to see whether the webcam device disappears or reappears. If the behavior changes with the screen position, it could indicate a webcam cable or webcam module hardware issue.

If possible, you may also perform a clean Windows installation using an official Microsoft image. If the issue persists after a clean installation and the webcam continues to intermittently disappear, a hardware-related problem becomes much more likely, and contacting HP Support for further diagnosis would be recommended.
