Hi @Ledemiche , Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your webcam!
looks like your device webcam is playing hide and seek! Rest assured we'll catch hold of it 😉

You can try these troubleshooting steps:

Check the Webcam in Device Manager

  1. Press Win + X and select Device Manager.

  2. Expand Imaging Devices and see if your webcam is listed (it may be named something like HP Wide Vision HD Camera).

  3. If there's a yellow triangle or error icon next to the webcam, it could indicate an issue with the device. Right-click on it and select Update driver.

    • Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
    • If that doesn’t help, select Uninstall device. Restart your laptop, and Windows should automatically reinstall the webcam driver.

Check the Camera Privacy Settings

  1. Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera.
  2. Make sure that access to the camera is allowed for apps you want to use (like Zoom, Teams, or other webcam-enabled apps).
  3. Under Choose which apps can access your camera, make sure the toggle is ON for the apps you're using.

Check Camera in Camera App

  1. Open the Camera app from the Start menu.
  2. If the camera works here but not in other apps, the issue may be app specific. Try reinstalling or updating the app you’re having trouble with.

Update Windows

  1. Go to Settings → Update & Security → Windows Update.
  2. Click Check for updates to ensure your system is up to date.
  3. Restart your PC if any updates are available and check if the webcam works afterward.

Run the Hardware Troubleshooter

  1. Go to Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters.
  2. Under Most Frequent, select Camera, and click Run.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to detect and fix any issues.

Check for Third-Party Software Conflicts

If you have installed any third-party software that accesses the webcam (such as camera utilities), make sure they're not interfering with the webcam’s functionality. Try uninstalling any such software temporarily to see if that resolves the issue.

Restore System to a Previous Point

If the issue started recently and you’ve tried everything above without success, consider restoring your system to an earlier restore point when the webcam was working.

  1. Press Win + R, type rstrui, and hit Enter.
  2. Follow the prompts to restore your system to a previous state.

Fingers crossed it’s up and running soon so you can get back to your usual webcam antics! Let me know if anything comes up.

We hope our assistance has been helpful!

Take care and have an amazing day!

Try these steps: Restart your laptop and check if the webcam works. Open Device Manager, find Imaging Devices or Cameras, right-click your webcam, and select Uninstall Device, then restart your PC. If the issue persists, update the webcam driver from the HP website or through Windows Update. Also, check Privacy Settings under Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera to ensure apps have permission. If still not working, run the Windows Camera Troubleshooter under Settings > Troubleshoot.
