For the past 2 days my screen has now a very visible white cast resulting in colours looking desaturated /pastel and white washed. I have tried (successfully) twice to get it back to normal by turning my hdr setting off, but even now this method does not work. I have tried fixing the colour profile and updating the display drivers manually but that does not work either. I know this is an issue with only my display as colours sent from this laptop appear the same on other devices. This is a very urgent issue as the colours are distracting and i cannot focus on work.

Hi @tazzlewurm1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I Understand your concern about the display issue, don’t worry let me help you with this.

To start, could you please share the exact HP laptop model you’re using?

In the meantime, here are a few steps you can try :

  • Check Windows Display Settings:
    • Go to Settings > System > Display.
    • Ensure HDR is fully disabled, and try toggling Night Light or Color Filters off if they’re enabled.
  • Reset Color Calibration :
    • Type Calibrate display color in the Windows search bar.
    • Run through the calibration wizard to reset gamma, brightness, and contrast.
  • Update Graphics Drivers via HP Support Assistant:
    • Even if you’ve updated manually, using HP Support Assistant ensures you get the correct OEM-certified drivers.
  • Test with External Display:
    • Connect your laptop to an external monitor or TV. If the colors look normal there, it confirms the issue is isolated to your laptop’s built-in display panel.
  • BIOS/UEFI Check:
  • Restart your laptop and enter BIOS (usually by pressing Esc or F10 at startup). If the white cast appears even in BIOS, it’s likely a hardware issue with the display itself .
  • Also If you could share a picture of the issue.

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
