why are my colours so washed out?

I bought the HP Notebook model number 17-x116dx last Wednesday at Best Buy. I do love the laptop but the colors seem very washed out. I'm at the point of getting ready to just return it and get something else. I was expecting vibrant colors straight out of the box. I've ttied adjusting the contrast to no avail. I don't know what else I can do. Can anyone help me?

@JackTheCameraGu

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂

I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.

As I understand the colors are washed out,

Just to clarify, did you try making changes to the display settings?

If you haven't, please attempt the steps mentioned below:

  1. Right click on your main screen of the notebook,
  2. If available select "Intel Graphics Properties",
  3. Display
  4. Under Select Display
  5. your second display
  6. Click on Color
  7. Advanced.

See if you can adjust the color to your satisfaction.

Keep me posted,

If I have helped you resolve the issue, feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon below,

Followed by clicking on "Accept as solution" from the drop-down menu on the upper right corner,

Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum.  Have a great day!

I'm the farthest thing from a software engineer, but my HP laptop (Elite Book) has had this bad habit of waking up from sleeping with the much described "washed out" screen. Basically it was so bad that I couldn't even make out streets on Google maps for example; there just wasn't enough contrast.

Anyway, I found a simple solution that seems to work for a week or two, sure, not permanent, but easily gets rid of the annoyance. I hope this works for others as well.

Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers > Device Manager > Monitors > Generic PnP Monitor > select "Driver" tab > Disable Device > YES > Enable Device .....

And then the  screen is fine again

Good Luck!
