1040 g5 have option for a screen with HP sureview or without.
HP Sure View Integrated Privacy Screen 35.56 cm (14") diagonal FHD IPS eDP + PSR LED-backlit touch screen direct bonded with Corning® Gorilla® Glass 5, 700 cd/m2, 100% sRGB (1920 x 1080)7,8,9,10
or
35.56 cm (14") diagonal FHD IPS eDP + PSR BrightView WLED-backlit touch screen direct bonded with Corning® Gorilla® Glass 5, 400 cd/m2, 100% sRGB (1920 x 1080)7,8,10
I noticed when lookin at 840 G5 that screen with sureview has white visible backlike on the left and right edge of the screen.
Same is with 1040 G5.
You can see it in this video if you pay enough attention.

I also own 840 g5 and i can see it the same thing.
Do you know if the screen with 400 nits without sureview has also that issue?
Also, i wonder why screen with sure view has 700 nits and other is only 400?
The 700 nits does not lok that bright to me compared with mac what is only 400 nits. IMac looks brigher.
Is the 700 some kind of trick required becasue of the sureview technolgy?

So i got new 1040 g5 x360 and had to return it.
The screen with sure view have terrible angle of view even if the sureview is disabled. See the link for the video.
It is simply unusable if you move your head a little while using the laptop.
The shadows will follow your movement and it will be very distacting.
In addition all laptops with sureview have some bleeding of right and left edges of the screen.
It looks like there are white sripes going from top to the buttom. If you are sensitive you will see it.

I got the same problem with a new Eltibook 1040 x360 g5 with sure view and 700 nits matte screen. It has terrible angle of view even if sureview is disabled to the point where it is unusable. If you move your head a little the heavy vignetting/banding will follow your movement in a very distracting way. I have posted a video on youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AV0PLgkUzxY&feature=youtu.be

Bellow is the link to the video of the antiglare screen with 400nits with no sure view.

The issue is resolved but the screen is not sharp due to the antiglare coating.
You can see a white glow around the letters. For me this is not accaptable.
I do have old Dell 6430u with antiglare screen and the screen is super sharp.
According to notebook check:
As you can see the coating sacrifices the quality.
It amazes me that HP sells such a product.
Screen that is not sharp is not usuable in my opinion.

According to HP this is as "designed" and they would not do anything or return it.
The service guys where nice and said that they could have changed it to a "non" secrecy screen, but that option is not available in Sweden so they could not order it as a spare. In the end i sold it and lost some 1 000 EUR...
