I am wondering if there is a compatible "AC" /bluetooth wireless NIC available for the HP 17-X051nr notebook.

It currently has A/B/N / bluetooth.

It is also know as a W2M98UA.

Hi,

Your machine uses Intel 6th gen CPU. Please check pages 3 & 46 of the following document

         http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05122688.pdf

The book says you need this work to be performed by an HP Authorized Service Provider parts. But if out of warranty, the book also shows you how to do this yourself from page #46.

Regards.

I was not sure that applied to all of them.

Thank you very much.

Do you thing a Generic Intel branded adapter witht he same chipset would work?  or is it not on th HP BIOS Whitelist?

Hi,

From my reading, no more BIOS whitelist after mid 2014. Your machine is new, I believe it is still under warranty therefore it is much better to bring it to an authorized dealer and ask them to try different card for you.

Thanks,

I found an HP one on eBay for not too bad a price.

Since I have already had to replace the display, which I broke three days after buying the laptop, I don't think my warranty applies any more.   I dropped a full can of spray-solvent on it from a shelf.

...There may have been swearing...

I am  also upgrading the RAM (2 x Kingston HX421S13IB/8.)   (why not?)

Thank you for you help.

One last question, could I have swapped out my shattered display with a touch screen one?    I'm just asking for the inevitable next go-round.  These laptops have a lot of real estate and are wonderfully thin and light but they DO flex a bit.  I bought it for the above and because it does not have vents on the bottom and can be therefore used as a LAPtop.  I have yet to burn my legs while using it.

Hi,

Please check the book, from page 69, you may have an option for screen. On another thing: we used to call notebooks as laptops but with new hardware (hotter CPU's, video cards, ....) we won't call them laptops any more.

Regards.
