How old is your machine ? Depending on when it was built,

 

(a) you can't upgrade (before 2015)

(b) you may be able to upgrade (around 2015)

(c) you can upgrade (later years).

 

What is your machine ? You can use USB adapter such as

 

      https://www.lifewire.com/top-wi-fi-usb-adapters-2377825

It is older than 2015, thanks for the heads up about the 5g adapter, I will purchase one from Amazon.
