Ubuntu LTS

Hello, I have a HP elite book 1040 G1 and it supports WWAN LTE. It has an m2 card and sim slot, but lacks wwan antennas (only has wifi). If I purchase a compatible wwan module, would it work with generic wwan antennas? I can seem to find the original antennas since the model is so old, but I would assume that the antennas would be generic for wwan lte. I can just mount them on the bottom of the case, mounting location shouldn't matter much. Also, I'm running on Ubuntu but I've seen people online configure lte cards somewhat easily. Do you guys think this hack is worth pursuing or would it just be better to get an external lte modem?

Thanks!
