I am assuming that there are no options for adding a physical sim card slot to a probook that did not ship with one. Can a L860-GL-16 be used with an "eSIM"? Or is a USB dongle the only real option? Thanks.

The series has Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN) (select products only)
Intel XMM 7560 R + LTE-Advanced Pro WWAN (Cat 16)
Two antennas integrated at top of display
eSIM support
LTE CAT16: Fibocom LTE/HSPA + with GPS
Global Series support
Your machine does not have WWAN option therefore its SIM slot has a permanent insert installed as mention on page 6 of the manual.
To upgrade, hardware wise you need (a) WWAN module, (b) antennas and probably you need a professional installer.
Regards.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I am assuming this is not a supported upgrade, but I will continue.
So from your information, "select products only" Ryzen 3 and Ryzen 5 have eSIM support, so I assume that means they can use an eSIM without a physical sim card (in the sim card slot).
The "non select products", specifically the Ryzen 7, (and there are no Ryzen 7 "select products only"), do not have a physical sim card slot / holder / connector on the system board. So I guess the real question is:
Can the Intel XMM 7560 R + LTE-Advanced Pro WWAN (Cat 16) module be installed in a Ryzen 7 Win 11 (and supported Win 10) and an eSIM used? IE if the Intel XMM 7560R+ LTE-A Pro Drivers 0.5.100.865 Rev.A 35.4 MB Apr 7, 2023 sp145803.exe is installed, would the driver be fully functional and the WWAN module work just like in a "select products only"?
Obviously the non-trivial antenna issue would have to resolved as shown in the
"Removing_replacing_parts_for_HP_ProBook_445_G9_HP_Computer_Service" video.
