HP Notebook 15-r215na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

Would anyone be able to point me in the direction of where i can purchase a wifi card antenna for a HP Notebook 15-r215na please ?

I have replaced the hinges and whilst doing so noticed that the cable was split in 2 places.

I purchased this off ebay but unfortunately the socket to connect to the card is a lot smaller than the current faulty one.

Would appreciate some help in finding one that fits please ?!

Thanks in advance 😄

That looks to be a normal laptop wireless card antenna. They are all the same as the wireless cards have the same sized brass nipple where the antenna connects. Looks like this:

IPEX-MHF4-Internal-Antenna-Laptop-NGFF-for-Intel-7260-3160-8260-Wifi-WLAN-Card-3G-N5321

The last picture in the eBay auction you linked looks just like the connector above.

Your are saying the round end of the antenna's brass connection is smaller than the ones shown in the picture above?

Yeh, exactly that, I'll post a picture up later but the one I've ordered off ebay is never going to fit onto the wireless card.

Here is a picture to show the size difference. Right hand is the existing, left the new antenna.20180119_082145z.jpg

Hmmmm...never seen one like that but it took the comparison with the right one to get the picture. Apparently and I had never noticed this there is a difference between the connectors for older mini-pcie and newer NGFF cards. I will figure this out and find you the antennae you need. Generic ones can work well so I will search there, too.

HP Part number:

Antennas (includes wireless antenna cables and transceivers) For use in models without a touch screen 749638-001

Yours is mini-pcie so the brass connector points are larger in diameter than the ones for newer cards and the antennae are not interchangeable.

Thanks for all the help Huffer, I'm based in the UK so was hoping to get one from there if possible, struggling to find anything on ebay from the part number you have provided.

Do you think these would be suitable ?

Yes they will work fine. You may have to figure a way to hide some extra cable length but that will not hurt anything just roll it into a coil don't bend or pinch it.

Thanks Huffer, I've ordered them now, will let you know how i get on when they arrive !

Bad news, ive fitted the new antenna which fits perfectly, however i now cannot pick up any wifi signal at all.

Wifi just has a red cross on it and says no networks found. could it be that the wlan card is broken ?

I dont think it is ? I've checked the device manager and it says the device is working properly ?

Confused ! rubbish antennas ?

A red x through the card is not the antenna. Even with no antenna the card will appear in the device manager and show up in wifi you just have no signal bars.
