HP Notebook - 14-af103au
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

Notebook displays BSD when started up away from the modem.

Works all the time next to the modem.

If  I disable the auto wifi connection and manually connect when away from the modem it works, although after a while intermittently it could stop  I:e no keyboard or mouse operation then BSD.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Regards

Paul

Hi @paul_65,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

The behavior you're describing suggests that the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) and system instability might be related to the Wi-Fi connection or signal strength. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

1. Update Wi-Fi and Network Drivers:

  • Go to the HP support website and download the latest Wi-Fi and network drivers for your specific laptop model.
  • Open Device Manager (Press Windows + X and select Device Manager).
  • Expand Network adapters, right-click on your Wi-Fi adapter, and select Update driver.
  • Choose Browse my computer for drivers and navigate to the downloaded driver.

2. Adjust Power Management Settings:

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Right-click on your Wi-Fi adapter and select Properties.
  • Go to the Power Management tab.
  • Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
  • Click OK.

3. Change Wi-Fi Adapter Settings:

  • Go to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change adapter settings.
  • Right-click on your Wi-Fi connection and select Properties.
  • Click Configure next to your Wi-Fi adapter.
  • Go to the Advanced tab.
  • Look for settings like Roaming Aggressiveness or Wireless Mode and adjust them. For example, set Roaming Aggressiveness to a lower value.

4. Update BIOS and Firmware:

  • Go to the HP support website and check if there is a BIOS update available for your laptop model.
  • Follow the instructions to download and install the BIOS update.

5. Disable Fast Startup:

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
  • Click Choose what the power buttons do.
  • Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
  • Uncheck Turn on fast startup (recommended).
  • Click Save changes.

Kindly check the next steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @paul_65,

Please find the next steps below.

6. Check for Windows Updates:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
  • Check for updates and install any available updates.

7. Perform a Clean Boot:

  • Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
  • Go to the Services tab and check Hide all Microsoft services.
  • Click Disable all.
  • Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager.
  • Disable all startup items.
  • Close Task Manager and click OK in the System Configuration window.
  • Restart your laptop and see if the issue persists.

8. Run a System File Check:

  • Press Windows + X and select Windows Terminal (Admin).
  • Type sfc /scannow and press Enter.
  • Let the system file check complete and follow any instructions provided.

9. Check for Malware:

  • Run a full system scan using your antivirus software to ensure that malware is not causing the issue.

10. Perform a System Restore:

  • If the problem started recently, you can try performing a system restore to a point before the issue began.
  • Press Windows + R, type rstrui, and press Enter.
  • Follow the prompts to choose a restore point and restore your system.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, there may be a deeper hardware problem, and contacting HP phone support for further assistance may be necessary.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
