HP Notebook - 17-x108ca
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I have a 2-year old HP Notebook on Windows 10. Until recently my Wi-Fi and Bluetooth worked flawlessly with good range and quality:

- For wi-fi, my coverage was throughout the entire house

- For Bluetooth, could listen to music in adjacent rooms and no drops/static

For the past couple weeks:

- my wi-fi range is terrible: only connects if I am within 8-10 feet of my router.

- Bluetooth signal is dropping audio, lots of static and very poor range.

No other wireless devices in my home are having issues.

I have run the HP recommended troubleshooting suggestions: updated drivers, updated BIOS, virus-scanned, ran malwarebytes, temporarily disabled firewall, turned off power-saving, etc. and even replaced my Internet/Wi-Fi router but no improvement.

Any other suggestions or recommendations?

Thank you,

Derek.

Hi, Derek:

Did you try the latest wifi and Bluetooth drivers directly from the Intel site?

Wifi

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28876/Windows-10-Wi-Fi-Drivers-for-Intel-Wireless-Adapters...

Bluetooth:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28906/Intel-Wireless-Bluetooth-for-Windows-10?product=9485...

If updating the drivers doesn't help it could be that one of the two antenna cables has become damaged or disconnected, resulting in signal loss, ir the wifi card itself has developed a hardware issue.

Greetings Paul,

Thanks for your suggestions. I first tried the latest drivers as you recommended. Since this didn't correct the problem, I opened the case and did indeed find one of the two antenna cables was actually split at the rear of the laptop near the hinge. Will need to either look at fixing this or perhaps replacing with a USB Wi-Fi/Bluetooth Adaptor.

Best regards,

Derek
