I have a HP ENVY X360 running Microsoft Windows 11. While working on a school project, the WIFI and Bluetooth became disabled. I am unable to see or connect to any wireless networks. There is no option to place the computer into airplane mode. I have reset the computer to factory network adapters. No change. When I go into BIOS, there is an error in the wireless module check stating “NOT INSTALLED”. I have restarted the computer several times with no change. Wondering if this is a software issue or the wireless chip died. Please help.

Hi @RRR727,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can feel how stressful this is, especially when you’re in the middle of an important project and suddenly lose Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on your HP Envy x360. The fact that BIOS shows “Wireless Module: NOT INSTALLED” is a critical clue. Here’s what that means and what you can do:

What This Indicates

  • If BIOS cannot detect the wireless module, it’s almost always hardware-related, not just a Windows or driver issue.
  • The wireless chip is either:
    • Loose/disconnected (common after accidental drops or internal movement), or
    • Failed completely.

Steps to Confirm and Fix

1. Run HP UEFI Hardware Diagnostics

2. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Shut down the laptop.
  • Disconnect the charger and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect and restart.
  • Sometimes this reinitializes hardware.

3. Check BIOS Settings

  • Press F10 during boot → System Configuration → Built-in Device Options.
  • Ensure Wireless LAN and Bluetooth are enabled.
  • If they’re missing, the module is not detected at all.

4. Update BIOS

  • Go to Official HP® Support.
  • Enter your model and install the latest BIOS.
  • A BIOS update can sometimes restore detection if it’s a firmware glitch.

5. If Still “Not Installed”

  • This confirms a hardware failure.
  • The wireless card (usually an M.2 module) needs reseating or replacement.
  • If under warranty, contact HP Support for repair: HP Contact Support

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Today my Bluetooth icon disappeared, and my BT mouse stopped working.  I have an HP Pavilion Gaming TG01 desktop.  Looked in Windows Update History and noticed 2 x HP Software Component updates dated today, 11/17/2025.  I could not see Bluetooth in Device Manager.   So, I opened the HP Support Assistant (which I don't use, and rarely open).  It said there was a driver update for Bluetooth and BIOS.  I click on the Update, and then it refreshed and only showed a BIOS Update (ROM Family SSID 87D6).  So I allowed it to update my BIOS.  This RESOLVED MY ISSUE after the update and reboot.  Note, Windows Update has already updated my BIOS about 4 times since 2021 since I bought this HP Desktop.  Every time it updates the BIOS, I cross my fingers, and hope and prey.  And every time it updates successfully.  Seems like they do a good job at BIOS updates.
