I’m having two (older) notebooks; HP Pavilion DV7-6101SD and the HP Pavilion DV7-6C40ED both in excellent working condition with respectively Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 respectively.
On board Bluetooth Intel Centrino 3.0 Bluetooth adapter(HP 483113-001 ). Driver September 5th 2013 version 3.1.1309.386.
Headphones and mobiles are properly detected but Bluetooth mouses and Bluetooth external speakers are not.
Is there a software workaround solution without having to change the OS?
Any help is highly appreciated

@RLichtendahl, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Based on your description, your HP Pavilion dv7-6c40ed is running Windows 8.1 with an Intel Centrino Wireless Bluetooth 3.0 adapter, and while Bluetooth headphones and phones are detected, your Bluetooth mouse is not.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to help resolve the Bluetooth mouse detection issue:
Ensure Mouse is in Pairing Mode
- Make sure the Bluetooth mouse is fully charged or has fresh batteries.
- Press and hold the pairing button on the mouse until the LED starts blinking (refer to the mouse manual for exact steps).
Remove and Re-Pair the Mouse
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- If the mouse is listed, right-click and Remove device.
- Restart your notebook.
- Try pairing the mouse again via Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices.
Update Bluetooth Driver
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Bluetooth, right-click on Intel Centrino Wireless Bluetooth 3.0, and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
- If no update is found, you can manually download the latest compatible driver from the HP Software and Driver Downloads page.
Change Power Management Settings
- In Device Manager, right-click your Bluetooth adapter > Properties.
- Go to the Power Management tab.
- Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
Check Bluetooth Services
- Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- Ensure the following services are Running and set to Automatic:
- Bluetooth Support Service
- Bluetooth Handsfree Service
- Bluetooth Audio Gateway Service
Try a Different USB Bluetooth Adapter (Optional)
If the built-in adapter is not fully compatible with newer Bluetooth peripherals, consider using a USB Bluetooth 4.0 or 5.0 dongle. These are inexpensive and often more compatible with modern devices.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
