My Bluetooth stopped working. when I checked the sound, video and controllers under Device manager, I see there is a problem with RtkA2dp.  This is the status message I get.

The driver for this device has been blocked from starting because it is known to have problems with Windows. Contact the hardware vendor for a new driver. (Code 48)

Any solutions on getting around this?

Thanks

According to the PartSurfer, you have the Realtek RTL8723BE-VB Wi-Fi/BlueTooth chip.   The latest drivers for that chip were released in June, 2019

Bluetooth https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp98001-98500/sp98235.exe

Wi-Fi https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp96501-97000/sp96885.exe

Please install both of those drivers.

You might consider replacing that Realtek board with a newer one that supports both  the 2.4 and 5ghz bands in addition to the latest Bluetooth.  Our expert @Paul_Tikkanen could possibly provide a newer driver for the RTL8723BE-VB or possibly recommend a better replacement.

I went to the Realtek site and they had drivers even older than the one HP has.

Hi, @chrisV108

I believe this Bluetooth driver version is probably newer than what you currently have installed:

1.8.1037.2002     12/17/2020

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp112501-113000/sp112674.exe

sp98235 will install Bluetooth driver version 1.6.1015.3008, 06/07/2019.

As far as upgrading the Wi-Fi card...yes that is possible, but since your notebook only has one antenna wire connected to the RTL8723BE Wi-Fi adapter, there is only one card you can install where both the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth will work with only one antenna wire:

Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11 ac 1x1 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.2 Combo Adapter (MU-MIMO supported) HP part # L17365-005.

The card has a maximum throughput of 433 MBPS on the 5.0 GHz Wi-Fi band with an AC router and an excellent signal.

You can find this model on eBay, or Ali Express.

I see some Intel 3165 cards listed on the eBay listings, so don't buy those.

RTL8821CE - Buy RTL8821CE with free shipping on AliExpress

On the Ali Express listings, make sure the card has the HP Part # of 915620-001.

Below is the link to the service manual, where you can find the Wi-Fi card removal and replacement procedure:

The RTL8821CE Wi-Fi adapter has Bluetooth 4.2 and has newer Wi-Fi and Bluetooth drivers available as well.

Hi

I forgot to mention that while I am having a problem with Bluetooth, I have been using a USB attached NIC - Realtek 8812BU Wireless LAN 802.11 ac for Wifi connectivity and that is working fine.

I currently have a 3/115/2021 driver version 2024.0.209.for the RTL8723BE adapter.

Do you want me to use an older driver ?

HP Recommended

I'm a little confused. I forgot to mention I have a USB NIC for Wifi connectivity, and that is working fine.

However it is the Bluetooth that is the issue. I see under Sound, video and game controllers that RtkA2dp has an issue regarding the Microsoft Bluetooth Emulator, in particular Rtka2dp.sys v 1.1.142.2 - will sp112674.exe update this ?

HP Recommended

If you are using the Realtek RTL8723BE's Bluetooth adapter, check the driver version that is currently installed.

That would be listed under the Bluetooth device manager category for the Realtek Bluetooth adapter listed there.

If the driver version and date is older than the one I posted, you should be able to update the driver by running sp112674.

Under Realtek Bluetooth Adapter properties I have the driver as 1.9.1051.3004 and dated 9/12/2022. Isn't this newer than the one you mentioned?

HP Recommended

Yes, 1.9.1051.3004 is a newer driver, and is also the latest one available that I could find from this notebook model series.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to help you find a newer driver than what your notebook already has installed.

If you are interested, they sell a dual band USB AC Wi-Fi/Bluetooth adapter that may work if you don't want to swap out the internal Wi-Fi card.

I just bought this one for use in a HP Elitedesk 800 G3 Desktop Mini PC that did not come with a Wi-Fi adapter.

Works great and I have no issues with the Realtek drivers that were installed.

You should get the adapter that @Paul_Tikkanen recommend.

You can always buy antenna wire on ebay and stuff it inside the laptop to add that 2nd antenna.

I did use this Bluetooth USB "dongle" on several systems, and it worked fine but will take up a USB slot.
