HP EliteBook Folio 9470m
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

So recently I got myself a pair of wireless headphones and I've been using them on my phone until today when I wanted to connect them to my laptop. But when I clicked "Connect" in the Windows10 notification area it just kept searching and nothing ever got found. I opened bluetooth in the settings and clicked "Add bluetooth or other device" and a window came up telling me I had to turn on bluetooth (I noticed there was no ON-OFF button in the settings or anywhere). So I follow that window to to a microsoft page that said I should troubleshoot in the settings, so I opened up bluetooth troubleshooting and it came up with "Device does not have bluetooth". I may be wrong but I do clearly remember having bluetooth prior to one night when my Windows 10 decided to update itself. So I went into Device Manager and there was no "Bluetooth" section to be found. Just in case I updated some out-of-date drivers and tried finding it in the "add legacy hardware" option with no luck. I also updated windows again to the latest version, and restarted my laptop like 100 times while doing all this hoping something would change. I tried searching for a driver on the HP site and couldn't find anything related to bluetooth? So I'm lost. ANY help would be very much appreciated!

Hi:

Did you ever have W7 on there?

If so, most likely the Bluetooth was turned off during the upgrade.

See if this works...make a bootable Ubuntu USB installer from the link below.

https://ubuntu.com/download/desktop

Boot from the installer and select the option to Try Ubuntu Without Installing.

See if you can turn on the Bluetooth in Ubuntu.

If you can, turn it on, shut down the PC, remove the Ubuntu installer and when you are back into Windows, the Bluetooth should be working again.

I bought it with Windows 10 installed, and thank your for your help.

However I did boot with Ubuntu and I couldn't turn it on there either, the ON-OFF button was grayed out and stuck on OFF and it said "No Bluetooth Found -Plug in a dongle to use Bluetooth."

You're very welcome.

The only other suggestion I can offer, would be to go into the BIOS and make sure the Bluetooth radio is enabled.

If it shows not present, the BT module has suffered a hardware failure.

Yeah that unfortunately seems to be the most likely case. Again, thanks for the help.

Anytime.

Sorry that I was unable to help you get the BT to work again.
